SQE1

SQE1 preparation, built around how you actually revise

SQE1 tests functioning legal knowledge (FLK1 and FLK2) through single-best-answer questions. Practise by topic, sit mocks in the format of your sitting, and review what you missed.

Study materials

Learn the law, then check it sticks

Materials follow the SQE1 subject and topic structure, so you can move between a topic's notes, rules and questions.
  • Notes and cheat sheets

Concise topic notes and one-page summaries, each showing the date the law was last checked.
  • Law Index

Search key rules with their sources, save the ones you struggle with and jump to related questions.
About the Law Index about Law Index
  • Flashcards and mind maps

Active-recall cards and visual summaries, including your own personal cards.

Exam practice

Practise like the real thing, learn from every answer

  • Topic practice

Build sets by subject, topic and difficulty. Study mode shows explanations as you go; test mode holds them back.
  • Format-accurate mocks

Mocks follow the question count, sessions and timings of the sitting you choose, including the January 2027 change.
    See formats about Format-accurate mocks
  • Spaced review

Questions you got wrong, guessed or were unsure about come back on a schedule you can see and explain.
  • Analytics by topic

Coverage and accuracy are shown separately, so a topic you have barely attempted is not mistaken for one you have mastered.

Where SQE1 fits

Your SQE route

SQE1 is the first of the two SQE assessments. Qualifying as a solicitor in England and Wales follows these stages.
Your SQE route: SQE1 (FLK1 and FLK2), then SQE2 (oral and written skills), two years of qualifying work experience, character and suitability, then admission as a solicitor1SQE1FLK1 + FLK22SQE2Oral + written3QWE2 years full-time equiv.4Characterand suitability5Admissionas a solicitor
  1. 1. SQE1

Two functioning legal knowledge assessments, FLK1 and FLK2, of single-best-answer questions.

  2. 2. SQE2

Practical legal skills, assessed in oral and written stations. You sit SQE2 after passing SQE1.

  3. 3. Qualifying work experience

Two years full-time (or the part-time equivalent). It can be completed before, during or after your SQE assessments.

  4. 4. Character and suitability

The regulator assesses your character and suitability before you can be admitted.

  5. 5. Admission

Admission to the roll as a solicitor of England and Wales.

You also need a degree or an equivalent qualification or experience. This is a summary; always check the official SRA guidance for the requirements that apply to you.

SQE1 questions

Common questions

Do the questions match the real exam?
They are original questions written in the single-best-answer style and mapped to the SQE1 topics. They are practice material, not past or leaked exam questions.
Which format do mocks use, 180 or 170 questions per FLK?
It depends on your target sitting. We show the format before each mock. See exam formats.
Can I use it for SQE2 as well?
SQE2 is a separate skills assessment with its own plans. See SQE2 preparation.
